Minnesota
Materials: Steel & Paint

Selling Price: $9,000

Artist Statement:

The sculpture is titled 2020 because it is time specific. I completed it during the pandemic lockdown of 2020. The smaller triangles cutting into the larger triangles were added elements after the structure was initially created. Their purpose is to change the equilibrium of the piece. My work adds intuitive changes to the creation process. I wanted the piece to be an object that resonates with the events of the past year, the interruption to normalcy, and the resiliency of hope.

About Sunghee Min

Sunghee Min is a public artist based in Roseville, MN. She grew up in rural South Korea. She moved to California in her late twenties and studied sculpture and installation art at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After moving to Minnesota several years ago, Sunghee has been focusing on outdoor public sculpture. Her works have been shown in public outdoor exhibits throughout the Midwest. Public art encourages her to explore beyond her own interests and backgrounds, and she tries to create works that reach broader audiences. Her medium has been primarily metal, especially manufactured steel sheets, bars, angles and other structural shapes. Triangles and squares are prominent elements in her work. She likes using geometric shapes because of their simplicity and familiarity.
