Artist Statement:
When I was a child in North Dakota, there were still some wild buffalo that roamed the plains. I was fascinated by the strong presence and majesty of the large bulls. Capturing this image in stone was a goal of mine. I started with hammer and chisel and ended with lots of sanding. The process was amazing.
About Greg Kraft
Greg Kraft was bornin 1958 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. The beauty of nature inspired the carving of wood. Self-taught with the help of library books. He carved ice at the St. Paul Winter Carnival for 10 years. Opportunities in community education opened a new world. Knife making, silversmithing, carving wood, bone, horn, stone, antler, leather work,
and scrimshaw were learned. He became a blacksmith. Kraft took 14 ribbons at the Minnesota State Fair for knife and tool making and sculpture. Completed the Vesper School of Sculpture. Has works in galleries, sold pieces internationally, won awards and was accepted in 3 Minnesota sculpture walks.
