Structure 6442
Artist Statement:
The name Structure comes from both the building-like structure itself and the scaffolding support structure below that serves as a foundation. As I am building these sculptures, I like to envision the scaffolding as the physical representation of the societal and personal support structures we all use in our lives. I am fascinated by the elaborate constructs we build in our personal relationships and the precarious foundations we often choose to build them upon.
About Jon Kamrath
After an amazing decade of teaching art, Jon tested his original dream of being a public sculptor with a four-story tall public piece in Rochester, MN. Walking around the colossal finished work confirmed his dream had come true. For twelve years, he has been creating public sculptures for permanent and temporary locations. He especially enjoys making sculptures that encourage the viewer to move all around the piece, rewarding them with unique views from each perspective and facilitating exploration of the entire space. He likes to use strong contrast and bold diagonals to draw the viewer in from a distance, then reward them with interesting texture flowing lines leading all the way around.
