Hope
Artist Statement:
“A nurse will always give us hope. An angel with a stethoscope.” - Carrie Latet
The quote above gave us the inspiration to create our sculpture Hope. We felt a need to create a sculpture that celebrates the profession of nursing. Not just anyone can be a nurse. Becoming/being a nurse is definitely a special gift and requires many top-quality characteristics. The COVID-19 pandemic has really tested the faithfulness and strength of our entire healthcare system. We wanted to create a sculpture that would capture that faithfulness, compassion and strength of nurses. Nurses are truly angels, especially during the tough times of these past two years. Now is a good time to celebrate and recognize those nurses who have stayed the course and displayed steadfastness, commitment and faithfulness. Hope was created with stainless steel to represent long lasting strength. The shine of the stainless steel represents a shining light in the community. The image of an angel/wings represents a presence of peace, comfort and hope. The stethoscope represents that all important instrument that the nurse needs to check each patient’s heartbeat.
About Joe & Terry Malesky
Neither Joe nor Terry have an art degree. Some might say that they are “self taught” artists, but Joe and Terry will tell you that they were given the gift of artistic abilities by God. God is the most important thing to them as a couple and their hearts are always driven by their belief. Because of their faith, they want to share positive art that brings joy, hope, peace and love to all who see their work displayed. Joe and Terry have been asked many times about how a couple can work together so well and their response is that each of them has their own specific artistic talents, which compliment each other very well.
